History of the Club

Terry White – one of the group’s founder members – having already become an advanced rider and seeking to further develop his skills joined RoSPA advanced Motorcyclists West Midlands Group as it was forming in late 1999. He achieved Gold Grade in February 2000 and qualified as a trainer shortly afterwards.

His first local associate Simon Able came along in 2001 also wishing to develop his advanced skills. Following training he passed at gold grade and also shared Terry’s ambition to bring RoSPA training to Coventry.

Together they developed the plan of how the plan could be realised.

With help from the west midlands group and RoSPA H.Q. they got the group off the ground in April 2002.

A good turnout at the inaugural meeting at Canley Fire Station ensured the group was a viable idea; the rest, as they say, is history.

Graham Ballard, the group’s new chairman and training officer for 2006, is a member of the ‘in house’ developed training team which now gives the group a solid base on which it can build on the success so far achieved.

The group has actively supported Warwickshire BikeSafe since 2002 as some of the groups trainers have further qualified as assessors and now work alongside the police riders.

Some of our members have joined the group following an introduction to advanced riding at the BikeSafe Weekend Workshops.
